New Terms and Conditions for 2024

The Kennebec Water District (KWD) Board of Trustees and the Maine Public Utilities Commission have approved revisions to KWD’s Terms and Conditions of service. The revised Terms and Conditions went into effect on May 1, 2024. Changes include updated fees and modifications to metering and backflow procedures. These revisions do not impact water rates. Please see them by clicking here.

Our Source Water

The Kennebec Water District has used China Lake as its source of supply since 1905. China lake, covering an area of 6.1 square miles and a maximum depth of 85 feet, holds about 31.7 billion gallons of fresh water at any given time and provides more than enough capacity year around. The intake is in the West Basin of the lake which is largely undeveloped due to the Kennebec Water District’s management of these lands for over 100 years. Click below to find out more.

🌍 #recycling for Our Fresh Water 💧

Did you know that recycling plays a crucial role in protecting our fresh water sources? By recycling, we can:

Reduce Pollution: Proper recycling minimizes the waste that ends up in landfills and, eventually, our waterways. This helps keep our rivers, lakes, and streams clean and free from harmful contaminants.

Conserve Resources: Recycling reduces the need for raw materials, which means less mining and deforestation. This leads to less soil erosion and reduced runoff, both of which can impact our fresh water sources.

Lower Energy Use: Recycling uses less energy compared to producing new products from raw materials. This lower energy demand means less stress on our environment and, ultimately, on our water resources.

Every time you recycle a bottle, a can, or a piece of paper, you're contributing to cleaner, healthier fresh water for everyone!
